Arzana's City of Venice Trophy
2012-05-12 - America's Cup
In preparation for the America’s Cup World Series which begins next Thursday, seven of the nine international teams are taking part in the Arzana’s City of Venice Trophy races today and tomorrow.
The teams who have been practicing here for the past week shone in the light air conditions today. The Luna Rossa crews were at the top of the leaderboard, followed by France’s Team Energy in third overall. Artemis Racing finished 6,6,2 to end the day in 5th place overall.
Commenting on today’s practice races, Skipper Terry Hutchinson (USA) said: “We didn’t start very well in two of the three races. The one race we started well in, we did well in. It was a hard day. Mentally taxing. On a more positive note, we were experimenting with the gennaker and a few new settings on the boat, so we learned a lot about those.”
A cold front is due to move in over Italy this evening which will see an end to the hot and humid conditions and provide plenty of wind and rain for tomorrow’s racing which will finish in front of historic St Mark’s Square.
