Welcome to ÅF Offshore Race 2014
2014-04-10 - Kappsegling, ÅF Offshore Race
One of the world's biggest ocean races will start in the middle of Stockholm, sailing through the archipelago past Sandhamn and out on the open seas around the island of Gotland.
The finish is in Sandhamn with an award ceremony and regatta dinner on Wednesday, July 2
There is limited space to start several hundred boats in Stockholm. The boats are divided into groups of 15-20 boats. The event area on Skeppsholmen in the city center opens on Thursday, June 26th. A temporary marina is constructed next to sailing ship af Chapman with Stockholm City installing floating docks for all participating boats.
The event area will be buzzing with life up to the start. There will be exhibitors, dealers and more. There are many different restaurants and eateries ranging from simple meals to some finer establishments. Musical entertainment of various kinds will be performed on stage.
The starts of the ÅF Offshore Race begin Sunday, June 29 at 10:00 am. The course is about 350 Nm. A novelty this year is that the course is sailed non-stop for a stretch through the archipelago, through Sandhamn and around Gotland.
The day before (Saturday 28 June) will see the ÅF Inshore Race. This year both the start and finish is in Stockholm City. Exact course is determined by the weather. The competition is open to all boats with a SRS-certificate. Engine and VHF is mandatory.
For the ÅF Offshore Race, AIS-transponder is a requirement both for safety and to make the race more interesting to follow. You can follow all the boats in real time on http://www.ksss.se/en where you also find the complete invitation and registration form!
Welcome to Stockholm!
