ÅF Offshore Race 2015

2015-05-13 - ÅF Offshore Race Fellow sailors, After winter and snow, a new season is approaching fast. The preparations for ÅF Offshore Race 2015 is ongoing since last autumn. My name is Håkan Andersson and I want to warmly welcome you and your crew to the Royal Swedish Yacht Club (KSSS) and Stockholm/ Sandhamn.

ÅF Offshore Race 2015 and ÅF Offshore Race Classic 2015 opens June 25th 2015. The race starts at Sunday 28th. The starting area is situated in the very centre of Stockholm on the waters in front of the royal castle with starting procedures between 10.00 hrs until 14.30 hrs.

The 350 nautical mile course, starting in the city of Stockholm and finishing in Sandhamn, KSSS club area in the outer archipelago of Stockholm, takes the competitors through the breath-taking beauty of the Stockholm archipelago and out to the open sea around the island of Gotland. The course for the classical yachts is shorter and instead of rounding Gotland they sail directly to a bouy outside Visby and back to the finish in Sandhamn. Prize giving ceremony is planned for the 1st of July and is followed by a traditional dinner in the club house at Sandhamn.

KSSS would also like to invite you and your crew to take part in the ÅF Inshore Race 2015. This race starts on Saturday June 27, the day before the start of the ÅF Offshore Race 2015. The ÅF Inshore Race 2015 is sailed on an approximately 20 nautical mile course in the heart of Stockholm. This start and finish of the ÅF Inshore Race is in next to the race village on Skeppsholmen Island. This is an opportunity to make some final tuning and training or, a possibility to race with an alternative crew for example families, friends or business partners.

The harbour in Stockholm/Skeppsholmen opens on Thursday June 25th.  The first boats and teams will arrive for registration and to make their final preparations and the Race Village will be filled with activities connected to the race.

My race Team will put in our best effort to prepare the best possible arrangements for you and your crew. We have made some adjustments to simplify the administration for the competitors that enters the regatta. The course will offer you different challenges at sea and we hope that you will find a variety of options on the way to the finish.
We hope to attract competitors, both international and national ranging from professionals to corinthians. The start in Stockholm city is a fabulous way to promote the sport of sailing and last year we have more than 150 000 spectaculars following the race, live at the start and via the web.

Me and my team wish all participants very wellcome to ÅF Offshore Race 2015.

Håkan Andersson
Chairman of the Race Committee
