Local knowledge important in Saturday's ÅF Inshore Race

2015-06-26 - ÅF Offshore Race It is getting closer. On Saturday, close to 70 boats will race the ÅF Inshore Race - the race is sailed in the middle of the archipelago where local knowledge of islands and waters around the course is put to the test.

When the race starts on the water tomorrow, Saturday at 12, local knowledge among the sailors will be tested. Weak winds and a tricky course layout allows anyone who can find the most wind among the islands and islets a shot at first place.

- Sailors with local knowledge has a great chance of finding wind in the tricky conditions expected. They will have a clear advantage. For the two Swiss boats it will of course be a little more difficult, says race director Håkan Andersson.

ÅF Inshore Race has less strict safety requirements than ÅF Offshore Race - which means more boats can participate.

- It is a race open to all types of sailors. It start on Strömmen at 12 o'clock on Saturday and sails out past Blockhusudden and on to Vaxholm. The course will be adapted to tomorrow's conditions - expected to be shifting weather and north-easterly winds.

- There are close to 70 boats entered now. We expect to have the start in the usual way at 12, concludes Håkan Andersson.
