Volvo Ocean Race Stockholm Stopover

For the first time, in June 2009 Stockholm will be a stopover port for the international sailing competition the Volvo Ocean Race. The stopover will be the largest event in Sweden during 2009, with more than half a million visitors expected to visit the Race Village at Skeppsbron in Stockholm.

In October 2008 the Volvo Ocean Race started in Alicante, Spain. The competition sails over the world’s largest oceans and all continents to arrive in June 2009 at Stockholm, or the Stockholm Stopover as the port of call has been named. The City of Stockholm will host the Stockholm Stopover and Stockholm Harbour has the operating responsibilities for the event, 14-25 June 2009.

Stockholm is also the home port for Ericsson Racing Team that has two boats competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, Ericsson 3 and Ericsson 4.

KSSS is the sports supplier and is responsible for all in-port racing during the Stockholm Stopover. The race dates are:
June 16:    Legfinish in Sandhamn
June 17:    Stockholm City Sprint (Torsbyfjärden to Strömmen)
June 21 :   Inport Race at Kanholmsfjärden
June 22:    Pro/Am Race in Stockholm
June 25:    Legstart to St Petersburg at Kanholmsfjärden
