Team Mobline - preparing for the Double Handed Worlds

We have met Pär Lindforss, an everyday sailmaker, who together with Nadine Kugel in Team Mobline is preparing for this summer's big adventures, ORC Double Handed Worlds and the Baltic 600 Race.

Team Mobline was started in 2016 by Nadine Kugel, Odd Lindqvist and Pär Lindforss as a project to inspire more girls and women to race, ocean race and short-handed sailing. The boat is sailed by Pär and Nadine while Odd helps with preparations in terms of weather and strategy. Together, they jointly gather before each race, so the sailing crew should feel as well prepared as possible.

The boat is an Albin Nova, which has proven to work really well for DH sailing. The first thing that was done when the boat was bought was to change the mast and all the deck equipment. Ahead of this year's season, all running rigging, including bulkheads, and the entire set of sails will be replaced, which means that they will have seven new sails to work with. We hope to be able to tell you more about these projects a little later in the season.

In a normal year, the team participates in most DH regattas on the east coast. This year, the focus is instead on two longer races, namely the ORC DH Worlds in connection with Gotland Runt Offshore Race and the RORC Baltic Sea Race. For a long time, the team has had on their bucket list to sail one of the 600 NM races organized by RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club). So far, however, it has been only dreams as the projects to get to England to sail the Fastnet Race or Malta to sail the Middle Sea Race have been too big. Now that the opportunity to sail in the Baltic Sea arose, there was suddenly a chance to participate in an offshore race of 600 NM without too long a transport. The World’s is open to anyone, and one goal is to become the best mixed boat.

This year's arrangement will be a little different than previous years as in the spring they will focus more on refining details than participating in many competitions. The polar diagrams have already been honed, which is why the spring will be devoted to sail tests to know more about when each sail is most effective and when it is time to change, as well as, of course, fine-tuning maneuvers and boat handling.

At the time of writing, Pär and Nadine are in full swing preparing the boat for launch, after which a ORCi certificate will be fixed. The list of improvement projects is supposed to be 45 points long…

We wish Team Mobline great luck for the 2022 season.
